OSLO, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Norwegian King Harald V was back from Malaysia on Sunday evening, the Royal House said in a statement on Monday.

After his arrival, the king was admitted to a hospital in Oslo for medical examinations and will stay there for a few days for treatment and rest, according to the statement.

Harald V, 87, has been suffering from an infection and low heart rate, requiring hospitalization and medical transportation home. The infection has recently become more under control, but he needs a permanent pacemaker for controlling the low heart rate, the Royal House said.

The king was hospitalized due to an infection last Tuesday, during a private trip to Malaysia. On Saturday, the Royal House said he had a temporary pacemaker implanted at the Sultanah Maliha Hospital in Langkawi to make the return trip safer.

Born on Feb. 21, 1937, Harald V acceded to the throne in 1991.
