MEXICO CITY, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Monterrey returned to the top of the Liga MX standings on Sunday with a 3-0 home win over Pumas UNAM.
Brandon Vazquez opened the scoring in the 52nd minute by cleverly turning around his marker before slotting a first-time effort into the bottom right corner.
The hosts doubled their lead when Jesus Gallardo combined with Sergio Canales before the latter sent a long-range shot past goalkeeper Julio Gonzalez.
Gallardo was again the provider as his slick pass released Gerardo Arteaga to fire home in the 89th minute.
Monterrey, who are the only unbeaten team in the Liga MX, lead the competition with 22 points from 10 outings, ahead of second-placed Cruz Azul on goal difference.
Pumas are seventh in the 18-team standings with 15 points so far. ■
