BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- The World Mobile Congress (MWC) 2024 concluded here on Thursday, showcasing some of the trendiest mobile technologies and highlighting the latest innovations in the industry.

More than 101,000 people from over 205 countries and territories attended the event, with more than 59 percent of the participants coming from outside the mobile sector, said the organizer in a statement released on Thursday.

The latest development and application of 5G technologies, Generative AI, cloud computing, and cross-industry applications are at the center of the four-day event that kicked off on Monday.

The mobile broadband 5G technologies top the list of highlights unveiled by GSMA, the organizer of the event. The 5G technologies, based on which other mobile broadband services are fledgling, are "on a trajectory to account for half of all mobile connections by 2030," MWC said in a press release.

"Hearing truly compelling industry insights from the conference programme, and experiencing the innovation, ingenuity and optimism from the show floor, is why we meet in Barcelona every year," Mats Granryd, GSMA's director general, said.

GSMA announced the winners of the 29th annual Global Mobile Awards on Wednesday evening and handed out 30 awards across six categories.

Huawei emerged as a big winner, bagging seven different awards independently or jointly. China Unicom, State Grid, ZTE, and Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation were also among the laureates.

Over 300 Chinese companies were present at the congress. The second edition of this year's MWC, the MWC Shanghai, will take place in China's biggest city in June.
