ABUJA, March 1 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and four others injured Thursday when a bus and a car collided in Nigeria's southwestern state of Ogun, the traffic police said.
The collision occurred on the Fidiwo bridge, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Florence Okpe, a spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun, told reporters in the state capital of Abeokuta.
The tragedy was caused by "excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking which led to a loss of control," Okpe said, citing an investigation by the traffic police.
Deadly road accidents are frequently reported in Nigeria, often caused by overloading, bad road conditions, and reckless driving. ■
