DAMASCUS, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- Israeli airstrikes targeted areas in Damascus and Homs provinces in Syria on Thursday, according to Syrian media and a war monitoring group.
The strikes, part of a series of Israeli attacks on Iranian targets in the region, resulted in multiple explosions in Damascus and the activation of Syrian air defenses, local media reported.
In Homs, local media reported a drone strike on a vehicle near the Lebanese border, with no further details provided.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitoring group with sources on the ground in Syria, said the strikes hit their intended targets, including a site linked to air defense and radars northwest of Damascus and a truck belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah party in Homs, resulting in the death of a Hezbollah member.
Neither Israel nor Syria has commented on the attacks. ■
