JAKARTA, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia is ready to host the Formula 1 World Powerboat Championship, also known as F1H2O, for the second time on its volcanic lake on the Sumatra island this weekend after holding it last year at the same location.

The competition on Lake Toba in North Sumatra province on Saturday and Sunday will be the opening round of the UIM F1H2O for the 2024 season with participation of 18 racers from nine teams, including the China CTIC Team which finished third last year.

The Southeast Asian country has hosted a number of international events in the region with an aim of advancing tourism and spurring economic growth.

The Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) operation director Troy Reza Warokka said on Thursday that the preparation for the competition is going well, and that the racing session will be conducted in the morning to avoid strong winds and rough waves which usually occurs during the afternoon.

He also said that over 200 artists and dancers will entertain the public in the event held in the lakeside town of Balige.

More than 1,000 personnel from police, military and disaster mitigation agencies will reportedly be deployed in securing the event.
