JAKARTA, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- A joint search and rescue team is still searching for nine missing people in a landslide on a highway that has killed five people in the eastern Indonesian province of South Sulawesi, an official said on Wednesday.

The landslide occurred in Luwu regency, around 340 kilometers from the province's capital of Makassar, on Monday morning with rescuers evacuating four bodies. Another body buried by the landslide was found on Tuesday.

The landslide also buried more than ten motorcycles and two cars.

South Sulawesi search and rescue agency chief Mexianus Bekabel told local media that the search also involved police and military personnel and used drones and excavators.

"We are also searching the area at the bottom of the ravine. Because from our observation, some of the victims could have fallen after being hit by landslide," he said.

Disasters like floods and landslides often occur in Indonesia during the rainy season.
