Lao gov't kicks off monthly meeting to discuss key issues

VIENTIANE, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government kicked off its monthly meeting for February on Wednesday, at which participants will discuss key issues to the Southeast Asian country.

At the two-day meeting held in Lao capital Vientiane, participants will review government work over the past month and discuss guidelines and directions for the work in the coming month, Lao National Radio reported on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and attended by deputy prime ministers, other cabinet members, and representatives of ministries.

The meeting will discuss economic and financial difficulties, issues of public security and national defense, Laos' chairmanship of ASEAN and arrangements for the official visits by foreign leaders to Laos.

In opening remarks at the meeting, Sonexay also briefed the participants about regional and international situations, including external challenges affecting the world's economic recovery and recovery efforts in Laos.
