KIGALI, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- British Peter Joseph Blackmore won this year's Tour of Rwanda international cycling competition which concluded here in the capital city of Rwanda on Sunday.

Blackmore, 21, riding for Israel-Premier Tech, maintained the lead in the eighth and final stage, finishing the 73.6km final stage in one hour, 47 minutes and 37 seconds.

He finished the race 30 seconds ahead of second-placed French Pierre Latour riding for Total Energies.

"It means a lot like it's my first race of the season and first race for Israel Premier Tech. I didn't race last year, so to come back and win is amazing," Blackmore, who claimed a yellow jersey after winning the final stage, told reporters after winning the race.

Overall, Blackmore used 17 hours, 18 minutes, and 46 seconds to cover eight stages of the race, a distance of 740km around the country.

Started as a local race, it was recognized by the International Cycling Union in 2009 and upgraded to UCI 2.1 Category in 2019.
