DAR ES SALAAM, Feb. 24 (Xinhua)---The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the government of Tanzania on Friday signed a 158.1-million-U.S.-dollar loan agreement for the construction of a standard gauge railway (SGR) project connecting Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The agreement was signed between the AfDB country manager for Tanzania Patricia Laverley and the Minister for Finance Mwigulu Nchemba in the port city of Dar es Salaam, according to a statement from the Ministry of Finance.
Nchemba said the project was beneficial for Tanzania as it will enhance trade and diplomatic relations with landlocked countries of DRC and Burundi.
Laverley said AfDB's top priority was to connect African countries economically. ■
