VIENTIANE, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- The annual review meeting of the Lao National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was held in Lao capital Vientiane to review the participation of Lao officials in the 42nd session of the General Conference of UNESCO, and the performance of the Lao National Committee for UNESCO over the past year.
The meeting saw the presence of Lao Minister of Education and Sports and President of the Lao National Commission for UNESCO Phout Simmalavong, Lao News Agency (KPL) reported on Friday.
Last year witnessed outstanding achievements of the Lao National Commission for UNESCO in considering and acquiring technical and financial assistance, especially from UNESCO and its multi-sectoral regional office in Thailand. The assistance will be used to support efforts to promote education, science, culture and communication in Laos.
In 2024, the Lao National Commission for UNESCO will focus on its collaboration with relevant sectors to nominate the cultural and natural heritage of Laos for UNESCO's World Tangible and Intangible Heritage listing, and the translation of UNESCO's two-year strategy (2024-2025) into an annual plan of the national commission, according to the report. ■
