DODOMA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Tanzanian government has warned businessmen against hoarding sugar, saying those implicated in doing so will face the full force of the law.

Mohamed Mchengerwa, minister of state in the President's Office responsible for regional administration and local governments, ordered regional and district commissioners to crack down on sugar hoarders.

"The regional and district commissioners should work closely with the Sugar Board of Tanzania in unearthing the unscrupulous businessmen who hoard sugar to sell it at skyrocketing prices," Mchengerwa told a news conference Wednesday in Dodoma, the capital.

Prices of sugar have been rising dramatically due to a shortage of the commodity across the East African nation.

Mchengerwa said there is no need to hoard, the country recently imported 100,000 tonnes of sugar.

He said dishonest traders have been selling sugar at twice the indicative price released by the Sugar Board of Tanzania.
