DODOMA, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania will host the International Military Sports Council (CISM) conference from May 12 to 19, an official said Tuesday.
Francis Mbindi, a spokesperson for the Tanzania People's Defense Forces, said the CISM conference to be held in Tanzania's port city of Dar es Salaam will attract more than 300 participants from 140 members.
"The CISM gathering is intended to use sports for nurturing peace around the globe, mobilizing solidarity, friendship, equality, integrity, and bravery," Mbindi told a news conference in the national capital of Dodoma.
He said the conference will be opened by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on May 13 and be closed by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on May 17.
Founded on Feb. 18, 1948, the CISM is one of the largest multidisciplinary organizations in the world, organizing various sporting events for the armed forces of 140 members. ■
