PHNOM PENH, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- A fuel train crashed into a truck carrying paddy rice in northwestern Cambodia's Pursat province, leaving five people hospitalized, the National Police said on Tuesday.

The accident occurred on Monday afternoon at a railway crossing in Bakan district when the train rammed into a speeding truck that was attempting to cross the train line.

"Four people sustained serious injuries and one was slightly hurt in the crash," Bakan district police chief Colonel Neang Vuth said.

He added that the injured, who were on board the truck, were rushed to the Pursat Provincial Referral Hospital soon after the incident.

"The train driver sounded the horn for a prolonged period before the collision," he said, adding that the driver was unable to apply the brakes in time, causing the train to hit the truck.
