BEIJING, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

AG600M AMPHIBIOUS AIRCRAFT

China's homegrown AG600M aircraft, a firefighting model belonging to the AG600 large amphibious aircraft family, has completed its cold-weather flight tests recently, according to the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).

Two AG600M large amphibious airplanes completed the cold-weather flight test mission at an airport in Hailar District of Hulunbuir in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

NEW PLANT SPECIES

Chinese researchers have found a new plant species of the Rubiaceae family in southwest China's Yunnan Province, according to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

The findings, made by researchers from the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the CAS, were recently published in the journal Phytotaxa.

During a botanical expedition to a local nature reserve in Yunnan Province, the researchers collected a previously unknown Rubiaceae species. After extensive examination and comparison with other known species, the researchers confirmed that it was a new species.

HIGH-TECH COMPANIES IN GUANGDONG

The total number of high-tech enterprises in south China's Guangdong Province has exceeded 75,000, local authorities have said.

By the end of 2023, the province's estimated annual research and development (R&D) expenditure topped 460 billion yuan (about 64.8 billion U.S. dollars), boasting 1.35 million R&D personnel and more than 665,000 valid invention patents, according to statistics revealed at a provincial conference on high-quality development.
