VIENTIANE, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Laos-Vietnam Cooperation Agriculture and Forestry Development Center in Laos' northern Huaphan province is running courses to improve local farming methods and the quality of agricultural produce.
The center partners with the district agriculture and forestry office and other entities to run training courses for local people on new farming techniques, including crop cultivation and livestock raising, Lao National Radio reported on Monday.
Lao Deputy Prime Minister Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune and other government officials visited the center on Thursday. During the visit, Kikeo said the center is seeking assistance from like-minded entities and wants to share experiences with similar centers in other provinces so that more progress can be made.
In addition, many activities are underway in the center, including pig breeding, duck and chicken farming, planting of fruit trees and rice, cultivation of organic crops, and the establishment of a fishpond.
Located some 310 km northeast of the Lao capital Vientiane, the center opened in 2018 and began trialing new crop seeds and agricultural products, as well as methods of animal husbandry in 2019. ■
