MEXICO CITY, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Mexico international midfielder Erick Sanchez struck twice as Pachuca showed their title credentials with a 2-1 home win over Club America in the Liga MX on Saturday.
Sanchez put the hosts ahead early in the second half by firing an unstoppable shot past goalkeeper Luis Malagon following Miguel Rodriguez's cross.
Pachuca were back on level terms just after the hour when Brian Rodriguez combined with Julian Quinones before bundling home from close range.
But Sanchez wrested back the lead for the hosts by tapping in following Oussama Idrissi's pass on a counterattack.
Pachuca withstood a tense finale to clinch their fifth win of the campaign and move to second in the 18-team standings. Defending champions Club America dropped to fourth, two points shy of the leaders.
In Saturday's other Liga MX fixtures, Club Tijuana drew 3-3 at San Luis and Cruz Azul won 1-0 at home to Tigres. ■
