NIAMEY, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Clara Ana Coutinho de Sousa, World Bank (WB) country director for the Sahel countries including Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad and Niger, on Thursday announced the commitment of her institution to resume its activities with Niger, which were suspended since the coup on July 26, 2023.
She made the announcement during a meeting in Niamey, the capital of Niger, with Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine.
"We are here, with the firm will and determination to be able to resolve with you all the obstacles for the total resumption of WB programs in Niger," said the WB country director.
"The World Bank is a partner of Niger, and since the events of July 26, we have deplored that it took too long to carry out this evaluation which is important for a resumption of its cooperation," said the Nigerian prime minister.
He also invited the WB to evaluate its activities taking into account the current context of the country. "We are open, under your advice, so that all projects that do not work can be reviewed, and we invite you to tell us the slightest suspicion about the use of the Bank's resources." ■
