ADEN, Yemen, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- A bomb explosion in the southern Yemeni city of Aden killed two people and injured three civilians on Friday, a local security official told Xinhua.
The official, who asked to remain anonymous, said that an improvised explosive device was attached to the official vehicle of Colonel Ahmed Almarhaby, a military official of the Southern Transitional Council, and detonated in Aden's Daar Saad district.
While Almarhaby was not inside the car during the explosion, his son and one of his guards were killed in the blast. Three civilians nearby also sustained injuries from the attack, according to the official.
No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing so far. However, security officials in Aden believe terror elements targeted Almarhaby's vehicle in a planned assault.
Yemen has been embroiled in a civil war since 2014, with the Houthis fighting against the Yemeni government troops. Terror groups like al-Qaeda have exploited the chaos to entrench themselves, carrying out bombings and assassinations. ■
