SINGAPORE, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong inaugurated the country's first total defense exercise, "Exercise SG Ready," via video link on Thursday to mark the "Total Defence Day" of the city-state.

Wong called on the Singaporean people to renew their commitment to the "Total Defense" policy and be united in defending the home.

Over 500 educational, community, commercial, and government organizations joined the event to exercise emergency response when suffering power, water, food supply, or digital connectivity disorder arising from cyber-attacks, disinformation campaigns, and drone attacks, according to a statement issued by Singapore's Defense Ministry.

The exercise will last until Feb. 29.

The "Total Defence Day" is commemorated on Feb. 15 each year, the same day that Singapore fell to the Japanese in 1942 during World War II. It serves as a reminder to Singaporeans of their collective responsibility to defend the country.
