ULAN BATOR, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Strong winds and blizzards will sweep Mongolia from west to east starting Thursday night, the country's National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring said on Thursday.

The wind speed is expected to exceed 34 meters per second, causing poor road visibility and disastrous conditions, the weather monitoring agency said, adding that the unstable weather conditions are expected to continue through the weekend across the country.

The agency urged citizens, especially nomadic herders, to take extra precautions against possible disasters.

Mongolia, one of the last nomadic countries in the world, has a harsh continental climate as strong winds and dust storms are common.

Almost all provinces of Mongolia have experienced harsh weather conditions this winter, and around 90 percent of the country has been blanketed by snow, according to the agency.

Over half a million heads of livestock have so far died in the extreme weather this winter.
