BEIJING, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, is one of the most important festivals in China. The fifth day of the Chinese lunar New Year, also called "Powu" in Chinese, is believed to be the birthday of the God of Wealth. Chinese people celebrate this date with traditions such as setting off firecrackers and holding cultural events to eliminate misfortune and to welcome good luck and wealth for the coming year.
