JOHANNESBURG, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were killed when a Renault sedan collided head-on with a Toyota light delivery van on Sunday morning in Waterberg, Limpopo province, the northernmost province of South Africa, said Limpopo province department of transport and community safety.
The department issued a statement on Sunday saying the accident happened at the R101 next to Tobias in Waterberg district.
Limpopo province member of the executive council for transport and community safety, Florence Radzilani, sent condolence messages to the bereaved families and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
"The driver of the South African Police Service vehicle was rushed to hospital and is currently receiving medical attention. The cause of this horrific accident is still unknown and is currently being investigated," said the department.
Radzilani has also appealed to road-users to take extra precautions during their trips in order to reduce road fatalities on the provincial roads. ■
