RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Sao Paulo could make a bid to sign veteran Argentine winger Angel Di Maria, according to media reports in Brazil.
Di Maria, who turns 36 next week, has less than six months left on his deal with Benfica meaning he is free to sign a pre-contract with another club.
News outlet Lance said Sao Paulo manager Thiago Carpini viewed Di Maria as a possible substitute for his former Real Madrid teammate James Rodriguez.
The latter has failed to impress since joining Sao Paulo last July and the Colombian could leave the club before the Brazilian transfer window closes on March 7, it added.
Di Maria has also been linked to Argentina's Rosario Central, with whom he began his professional career in 2005. ■
