BELGRADE, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Serbian parliament was officially constituted in Belgrade on Tuesday, following the ratification of all 250 members of parliament (MPs) after the Dec. 17 snap elections.
This initial session confirmed MPs from ten political parties and coalitions. However, the parliament has yet to elect its speaker and members of the parliamentary bodies, leaving a key component of its organization pending.
At the forefront of the new parliamentary lineup is the coalition "Serbia Must not Stop," built around the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) led by President Aleksandar Vucic. The coalition secured 129 of the 250 available seats, followed by the opposition coalition "Serbia Against Violence" with 65 seats.
The assembly also includes 18 seats for the Socialist Party of Serbia's coalition, 13 seats each for the NADA coalition and the political force "We - Voice of the People." Meanwhile, the remaining 12 seats have been allocated to minority groups including Hungarian, Bosniak, Albanian, Croatian, and Russian representatives.
This constitutional session initiates a crucial 90-day window, during which the ruling majority is expected to nominate and elect a new prime minister and government officials. ■
