TEHRAN, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani on Wednesday strongly condemned a deadly "terrorist" attack on a courthouse in Türkiye's largest city Istanbul.

He made the remarks in a statement published on the ministry's website, while reacting to the attack in front of the Istanbul Caglayan Courthouse on Tuesday, in which a civilian was killed and six others, including three police officers, were wounded.

Kanaani extended sympathy to the families of those killed and injured in the incident, wishing the wounded speedy recovery.

He reaffirmed Iran's solidarity with the "brotherly and friendly country of Türkiye" in the fight against terrorism.

In a post on social media platform X, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Tuesday the attack was launched against a checkpoint in front of Istanbul Caglayan Courthouse at 11:46 a.m. local time (0846 GMT).

He added two attackers were captured dead in the gun attack, noting that they were "members of the outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C)."
