ASTANA, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- The government of Kazakhstan has resigned and first deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar will serve as the interim prime minister, the press service of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said Monday.

"In accordance with Article 70 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I decide: to accept the resignation of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and to temporarily assign the duties of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Roman Vasilyevich Sklyar," said Tokayev's decree.

"Members of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan continue to fulfill their duties until the approval of the new composition of the government," said the decree.

Before the decree was published, the government of Kazakhstan was headed by Alikhan Smailov. Smailov was appointed prime minister in January 2022, and was reappointed in March 2023.
