A parallel session on "Education Digitalization and Learning Society Construction" was launched in Shanghai on Tuesday as part of the 2024 World Digital Education Conference.
Over 240 representatives from educational departments, universities, and research institutions of 35 countries and regions participated in the conference.
Themed "Digital Education: Application, Sharing, and Innovation," the conference delved into the theoretical and practical aspects of building a learning society in the digital age.
Chinese and foreign education experts discussed strategies for navigating the profound changes in education brought by rapid development of digital technology.
To cope with the challenges brought by technologies such as artificial intelligence, participants agreed that both governments and international organizations should share high-quality resources and effective solutions while strengthening global governance in digital education.
Participants also reached a consensus that governments, schools, and businesses worldwide should strengthen cooperation and jointly build an all-weather digital learning platform to provide round-the-clock, uninterrupted learning support for learners worldwide.
More intelligent and portable learning terminals are essential for developing a comprehensive digital learning space, said the experts. In this way, learners can easily access educational resources despite their locations.
More personalized and user-friendly learning services are also crucial for ushering in a new era of a learning society, said the experts. A wide range of customized services would assist in building a fully covered digital education community and establishing sound mechanisms for data security, digital ethics, and privacy protection.
Hosted by the Open University of China and the Shanghai Open University, the parallel session was conducted under the guidance of the Vocational and Adult Education Department of the Ministry of Education.
The parallel session also unveiled China's "Development Report on Building a Learning Society in the Digitalization Process," outlining the country's approaches to digital empowerment and providing insights into future trends in digital learning.
