LA PAZ, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- At least 22 people have died due to the heavy rains across Bolivia since November, the Bolivian government said Monday.

"From November 2023 to January 2024, seven departments were affected. La Paz was most affected. We have 9,625 families affected and impacted," Juan Carlos Calvimontes, deputy minister of civil defense, said at a news conference.

La Asunta, Tipuani, and Irupana municipalities in La Paz, as well as Cotagaita in Potosi, were declared a "municipal disaster," Calvimontes said, adding that the cities of Huacaraje and Trinidad in Beni were declared a "municipal emergency."

So far, 44 municipalities have been affected by the floods caused by the heavy rains.

The national government has provided 131 tons of humanitarian assistance, the minister said.
