SHENYANG, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Zhang Yongqing, a piano tuner, has been dedicating over 30 years to this profession since graduating from a technical school with a major in instrument manufacturing.
Each piano comprises 88 keys, over 200 strings, and numerous components. Changes in temperature and humidity can cause subtle alteration to the piano's pitch and mechanical state. Zhang's role as a tuner is to counteract these changes, ensuring the piano maintains stable and accurate sound production.
This job requires high professional competence and demands deep expertise, musical talent, keen observation, listening skills, and strong hands-on ability. Despite the perceived monotony of the job, Zhang sees each tuning session as a dialogue with the piano, involving precise adjustments to tones, key pressures, and meticulous handling of screws and components.
