BEIJING, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.83 percent to 2,830.53 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.4 percent lower at 8,375.98 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 663.7 billion yuan (about 93.4 billion U.S. dollars), down from 805.22 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks in the education and e-commerce sector suffered major losses, while shares related to the farming sector led the gains.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.47 percent to close at 1,583.77 points Tuesday. ■
