ALGIERS, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Sunday reiterated his country's unwavering support for Sudan.
Tebboune made the remarks at a joint press conference in Algiers with visiting Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
The president emphasized Algeria's commitment to "stand alongside the Sudanese people during these challenging circumstances," as he underscored Algeria's dedication to "resolving internal disputes through an internal vision, free from foreign interference."
Meanwhile, Tebboune expressed confidence in Sudan's resilience, saying it can overcome challenges stemming from what he referred to as "blatant aggression against it."
In response, Al-Burhan praised Algeria's historical support for Sudan, acknowledging a shared understanding of Sudanese and regional issues with Algeria.
Al-Burhan extended an invitation for Algerian participation in the dialogue to resolve the Sudanese crisis, stating, "We will be pleased for Algeria to join any discussions or dialogues, whether African or Arab. We always welcome them, aiming for peaceful solutions to allow us to overcome this ordeal."
Al-Burhan started a two-day official visit to Algeria on Sunday.
Sudan has been witnessing deadly clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since April 15, 2023. More than 13,000 people had been killed, and over 9 million had been displaced since the fighting broke out, according to estimates by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs released last week. ■
