NAIROBI, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Kenya on Monday launched the National Skills Inventory Database which is designed to enhance job placement of unemployed youth by effectively aligning available skills to the international labor markets.

Shadrack Mwadime, the principal secretary in the State Department of Labor and Skills Development, told journalists in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, that international labor recruiting agencies will be requested to submit their job orders and job opportunities to the digital platform.

"The digital skills database will support the government's skills migration agenda that is geared to ensure that surplus labor is henceforth exported to enhance the inflow of diaspora remittances," Mwadime said.

He noted that unemployed youth will be required to register their skills on the digital platform so that potential employers can have a pool of talent to choose from.

According to Mwadimu, the country has already signed several bilateral labor agreements with European and Middle East countries to streamline the process of Kenyans seeking work outside its borders. He added that Kenya has set a target to export at least 1 million laborers annually in the next five years.
