HANOI, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Asia is the largest market for Vietnamese peppercorns, accounting for 52.7 percent of the nation's total export volume of the product, according to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association.

Among Asian countries, China is the Vietnam's biggest peppercorn importer with 60,135 tons in 2023, accounting for 22.8 percent of total, Vietnam News Agency reported Friday, citing the association.

In contrast to an annual decline in peppercorn exports from major producers such as Brazil, Indonesia, India and Malaysia, Vietnam has witnessed a remarkable surge of over 13.8 percent with a total of 264,094 tons and 906.5 million U.S. dollars.

In the coming months, Vietnam's pepper export is expected to see a slowdown because domestic supply is no longer abundant, said the report, adding that the pepper inventory in 2024 will be at its lowest level in many years.
