YANGON, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Karen people of Myanmar are seeking to have their traditional Don dance added to the intangible cultural heritage list of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), assistant director of the Hpa-an's Department of Archaeology and National Museum Naw Kyu Kyu Than told Xinhua on Friday.

At present, subcommittees have been formed to conduct field surveys, research and documentation details regarding Don dance moves, musical instruments and its significance, she said, adding that research activities are still underway.

"We attempt to put Don dance, among all the Karen dances, on UNESCO's list because it is popular everywhere in our country and it has existed since feudal times," she said.

"If the Don dance is on the UNESCO list, not only in our country, the dance and instrument players will be recognized all over the world," she added.
