SEOUL, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's biggest carmaker Hyundai Motor on Thursday reported a record high operating profit in 2023 due to strong demand for eco-friendly vehicles.
The company's operating profit surged 54.0 percent over the year to reach a new high of 15.13 trillion won (11.3 billion U.S. dollars) in 2023.
Revenue advanced 14.4 percent to 162.66 trillion won (121.7 billion dollars), and net income soared 53.7 percent to 12.27 trillion won (9.2 billion dollars).
The automaker sold 4,216,898 vehicles worldwide in 2023, up 7.0 percent compared to the previous year.
During the October-December quarter, the number of Hyundai vehicles sold across the globe was 1,089,862.
Car sales outside South Korea grew 5.3 percent to 891,304 units in the fourth quarter, while local sales climbed 3.4 percent to 198,558 units.
Hyundai's global sales of electrified vehicles jumped 27.7 percent over the year to 173,297 units in the fourth quarter.
The carmaker's fourth-quarter revenue rose 8.3 percent to 41.67 trillion won (31.2 billion dollars) on a yearly basis.
Operating profit added 0.2 percent to 3.41 trillion won (2.5 billion dollars), and net income soared 28.8 percent to 2.2 trillion won (1.6 billion dollars) in the fourth quarter. ■
