SEOUL, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) stressed the need to develop the regional economy and improve people's livelihood, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Thursday.
Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), made the remarks at an enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK, which was held from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Kim urged the ruling party to properly implement the economic policy on narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas, and developing the regional economy, to improve the livelihood of the people, said the KCNA report.
He also underscored the importance of narrowing the gap between the central region and other regions, prioritizing efforts to promote the well-being of local people, protecting their rights and improving the living environment of local regions and the countryside.
He added that those are the important principles the ruling party must uphold and a political task.
The meeting also adopted a resolution on promoting regional industries, and Kim said it is imperative for the Korean People's Army to remain in the forefront of the efforts to develop the regional industry, according to the report. ■
