MORONI, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Comoros' Supreme Court confirmed on Wednesday the victory of incumbent President Azali Assoumani in the presidential election held on Jan. 14.
According to the official account, Assoumani received more than 57 percent of the votes, thus exceeding the 50 percent threshold required for winning the first round. Six candidates ran in the presidential election in the island country in the western Indian Ocean.
This is Assoumani's third term as he won elections in 2002 and 2016. He has also held the presidency of the African Union since February 2023. ■
