KUNMING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Yunnan Province saw its regional gross domestic product (GDP) increase 4.4 percent year on year to over 3 trillion yuan (about 422.22 billion U.S. dollars) in 2023, according to the annual session of the provincial people's congress on Wednesday.
Last year, Yunnan vigorously promoted the development of both traditional industries and strategic emerging industries. The electronics industry, including silicon photovoltaic and new energy batteries, maintained a growth rate of more than 25 percent for 18 consecutive months, while the high-tech manufacturing industry grew by 21.2 percent year on year.
As one of the most popular tourist destinations in China, more than 1 billion tourists visited Yunnan last year, pushing its tourism revenue up to 1.44 trillion yuan.
In 2023, the import and export freight volume handled by the ports in Yunnan increased by 32.2 percent. The China-Laos Railway transported more than 25 million passengers and over 30 million tonnes of cargo. ■
