YANGON, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- A ceremony to present honorary awards to Myanmar athletes who won medals in Asian and international sport competitions was recently held in Nay Pyi Taw, according to the state-run media outlet the Mirror on Wednesday.
The Chairman of the State Administration Council Min Aung Hlaing delivered a speech and presented the awards at the ceremony which was held on Tuesday.
Myanmar earned a total of 24 medals including five gold medals, five silver medals, 14 bronze medals in the Asian and international sport competitions in 2023, Min Aung Hlaing said in the speech.
In the 19th Asian Games held in China in 2023, Myanmar secured one gold medal in the men's Sepak Takraw event, and two bronze medals in the dragon boat women's 500m and men's 1,000m.
Min Aung Hlaing called for cooperation between the relevant departments to enhance the sports development and expected the athletes to achieve greater success in future. ■
