BEIRUT, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling killed two Hezbollah members and a civilian and wounded three other civilians on the Lebanese-Israeli border on Monday, Lebanese military sources said.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attacks targeted civilian homes and 21 villages and towns in southern Lebanon, adding that 20 houses were destroyed and more than 50 were damaged.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah said its fighters attacked an Israeli soldier gathering at the Zarit barracks along the border.

Tensions have risen along the border since Oct. 8, 2023, when the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel in support of the Hamas attack the day before. Israel responded to the Hezbollah attack by firing artillery at southeastern Lebanon.

The clashes have so far killed 229 people on the Lebanese side, including 163 Hezbollah members and 38 civilians, Lebanese security sources said.
