YAOUNDE, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon's national U20 women's football team qualified for the 2024 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup for the first time.
Having won the first leg 4-2 away in Egypt last week, the Indomitable Lionesses advanced 5-3 on aggregate despite a 1-1 draw at home on Sunday in Cameroon's capital city of Yaounde.
In the first half, the visitors were looking more determined, launching numerous attacks to put Cameroon's defense under immense pressure. The pressure paid off at the 40th minute when Egypt's Habiba Esam opened score.
Cameroon answered in the second half through a header from Lamine Mana, crushing Egypt's hopes.
Cameroon now joins Ghana, Nigeria and Morocco as the African teams that have qualified for the tournament, which will be held in September in Colombia this year. ■
