BEIJING, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will pay a state visit to China from Jan. 23 to 25.
Mirziyoyev, 66, was born on July 24, 1957 in Uzbekistan's Jizzakh region. He graduated from the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agriculture Mechanization Engineers with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1981. He holds a Ph.D. in Technical Sciences.
From 1981 to 1990, he lectured and conducted academic research at the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agriculture Mechanization Engineers.
From 1992 to 1996, he became governor of the Mirzo Ulugbek District in the city of Tashkent. He successively served as governor of the Jizzakh region and governor of the Samarkand region from 1996 to 2003.
In December 2003, he was appointed the country's prime minister and was subsequently re-approved three times for the post in February 2005, January 2010 and February 2015.
In December 2016, he was elected president and was reelected in October 2021 and July 2023.
He is married, and has two daughters and one son. ■
