NEW DELHI, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's Shi Yuqi and Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei claimed men's and women's titles respectively at badminton's India Open here on Sunday.
Sixth-seeded Shi, who faltered at last week's Malaysia Open final, topped the podium with a tough 23-21, 21-17 victory over unseeded Lee Cheuk-yiu of Hong Kong, China.
"Since the second half of last year, I have been going through a difficult time. I am eager to win every championship and give my all in every game. I'm really happy that I made it today," said Shi after the final.
In the women's singles, fourth seed Tai eased past China's Olympic champion Chen Yufei 21-16, 21-12 in just 42 minutes, winning her first India Open gold medal.
The mixed doubles title was clinched by Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai, who outplayed China's Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin 21-16, 21-16.
Elsewhere, fellow Chinese pair Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu went down to Japan's Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara 21-12, 21-13 in the women's doubles final.
South Korean shuttlers also grabbed one gold as world champions Kang Min-hyuk and Seo Seung-jae fought from one set down to beat home favorites Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty 15-21, 21-11, 21-18 in the men's doubles. ■
