AGARTALA, India, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- People in Agartala, capital city of India's northeastern state of Tripura, engage in the artistic tradition of making rangoli, intricate floor decorations, outside their homes on the eve of the Hindu festival Makar Sankranti.

Makar Sankranti is one of the most auspicious occasions for the Hindus, which is celebrated in almost all parts of India in a myriad of cultural forms, with great devotion, fervor, and gaiety.
