PHNOM PENH, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's imports of diesel fuel and petroleum oil declined by 7.6 percent in 2023, according to a report from the General Department of Customs and Excise on Sunday.
The value of diesel fuel and petroleum oil imports totaled 2.17 billion U.S. dollars last year, a decrease of 7.6 percent from 2.35 billion dollars in the year before, the report said.
The Southeast Asian country spent 1.32 billion dollars for diesel fuel and 850 million dollars for petroleum oils last year, a year-on-year drop of 12.2 percent and 0.26 percent, respectively, the report added.
Cambodia currently relies totally on the imports of diesel fuel and petroleum oil as its seabed's oil reserves have not been tapped yet.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy forecasts that the demand for oil products in Cambodia will rise to 4.8 million tons in 2030, up from 2.8 million tons in 2020.
At gas stations on Sunday, regular petrol and diesel cost 4,150 riel (1.01 dollars) per liter. ■
