KABUL, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Afghan caretaker government's Ministry of Public Work has launched more than 110 development and maintenance projects since March 21, 2023, Spokesman for the ministry Ashraf Haqshenas said.
Citing Haqshenas, the local media outlet Tolonews reported Sunday that more than 90 maintenance projects worth 2 billion afghani (1 U.S. dollar equals 70 afghani) have been completed over the past 10 months.
The projects initiated includes construction of about 1,000 km roads, 30 bridge piers, water reservoir dams and protective walls in different parts of the country, Haqshenas was quoted as saying.
Construction of the Kabul-Kandahar highway, the Afghan ring road and reconstruction of the Salang tunnel, which connects Afghanistan's national capital Kabul to the nine northern provinces onward to central Asian states are among the achievements of the ministry for public work, Tolonews reported.
In the meantime, Abdul Latif Nazari, deputy minister of economy, has asserted that the administration, in efforts to overcome economic challenges and create job opportunities, has planned to launch infrastructural projects such as railways, highways, energy development and transparent extraction of mines to create more jobs and alleviate poverty. ■
