TEHRAN, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani on Friday strongly condemned the military attacks by the United States and Britain on several Yemeni cities.

In a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Kanaani described the attacks as an "arbitrary action and clear violations of Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as international law, regulations and rights."

He added that these military attacks were carried out in line with the ongoing full support of the United States and Britain over the past 100 days for Israel's "war crimes" against Palestinians and Gaza's "oppressed" civilians, who were under a complete siege.

Kanaani emphasized that these "arbitrary attacks" would only fuel insecurity and instability in the region, adding that "the United States and Britain sought to distract peoples' attention from the Israeli 'crimes' by broadening the scope of their support for Israel."

He expressed concern over the consequences of such arbitrary recurring attacks for regional and international peace and security, calling on the international community to prevent escalating the conflict as well as countering instability and insecurity in the region by taking "responsible" measures.

The United States and Britain launched several airstrikes on Houthi military sites around the Yemeni capital Sanaa before dawn on Friday, Houthi-controlled Saba news agency and local residents said.

"The American-Israeli-British aggression launched several raids on the capital Sanaa, and the governorates of Hodeidah, Saada, and Dhamar," the news agency reported.

The allied airstrikes came hours after the Houthi fighters launched a ballistic missile at a cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden, according to a post by the U.S. Central Command on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

The Houthis said they only attack Israel-affiliated or Israel-bound ships to compel Israel to stop its war on Gaza.
