TEHRAN, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- A trainer aircraft has crashed in the northern Iranian province of Alborz, killing its two-member crew, the official news agency IRNA reported on Wednesday.

The plane, a Piper PA-28 Cherokee, took off on Tuesday evening in Savojbolagh County and went off the radar after a few hours, the IRNA quoted Mohammad Baqer Khalafi, director general of the provincial Red Crescent Society, as saying.

The plane's wreckage, the body of the pilot and the trainee were found at the heights of the county following aerial and ground searches, said the report.

According to County Governor Mohammad-Reza Alborzi, the plane took off at 12:45 p.m. local time (0915 GMT) and stopped responding to the control tower after two hours, the report added.
