BANGKOK, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's export value is expected to grow between 1 percent and 2 percent this year amid global economic uncertainty, the Thai National Shippers' Council (TNSC) said on Tuesday.

Export, a key driver of the Southeast Asian country's economic growth, is projected to expand up to about 290 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, weighted down by Thai baht appreciation, high global interest rates, geopolitical tensions, and uncertainties in production costs, the TNSC said in a statement.

The slight increase in the kingdom's export this year is attributed to a weak global economy and unforeseen risks that need to be managed, Chaichan Chareonsuk, TNSC chairman, told a news conference.

For the first 11 months of 2023, export shrank 1.5 percent year-on-year, despite an increase of 4.9 percent in November.

The council maintained its export projection for last year at a 1 percent contraction, the statement said.
